How to edit saved game with DISE and Horizon (Xbox 360)

This less-than-a-minute long video I made shows you how to do it (as the title says) quick and easy. :)

Horizon version: 2.5.8.0.
DISE version: 0.0.55.34.

    I am attempting to mod... and the save I made when it loads in xbox it freeze's??????? I have to restart xbox any idea's what I may have made a mistake on????? LOL..I know I am doing something wrong just cannot figure out what it might be????? its 91stang by the way

      Hello!

      If you have an older version of the game, please make sure to update it to 1.3.0.

      There are some other things that can freeze the game, like very high values for cash, ammo, skill points, etc.. Some weapons like the Stationary MG will freeze the game.

      Please don't worry. :) It should be in one of the corners in the main menu in-game. If you don't see it, it's version 1.0 (old). :)

    Well Steffen, I have attempted to lower Ammo, cash, Most every aspect.... but as soon as game starts loading...BLAMMO it still freezes?????? I am totally lost and frustrated........ any ideas??? 91stang

      I'm not sure but if/once I test your game-save, at least we'll know if it's DISE's fault or not. If your save loads perfectly on my Xbox, I'm afraid it will be harder to figure out why your game freezes.

      I think that if it works fine for me, all I can try is:
      - Use the exact same version of the game as you.
      - Use the exact same profile and save as you.

      If it *does* freeze, then I should be able to figure out somehing.

    im having a problem when im saving my gamesave. it says that my save is already running by something else!! Please help!!

      It probably says that the file is in use by another program. If you are not sure which program is locking your save, you can try to restart your computer once.

    Same problem here, file is in use by another program. I've even tried closing horizon and every other program running, only DISE is running and that cursed message just keeps popping up.

      That is a bit strange. I have an idea.. Whenever that happens, could you please try one of the following programs?
      http://www.emptyloop.com/unlocker/
      http://lockhunter.com/

      They should be able to tell you which program(s) are locking your save. With Unlocker, you should also be able to forcefully unlock files.

      This may help me figure out how to deal with the problem and hopefully fix it if it's a problem with DISE itself. :)

    This tool is useless it goes from a 60 kb save to a 2.92 kb saving it doesn't even save it in a con file so you can't put it on your usb and if you get it's corrupted. This is useless!

      If you follow the video tutorial *exactly* as I show you, you should have no trouble. If your save becomes "corrupted" (not really), try Modio instead of Horizon. Of course, you can put it back onto your USB device. Just look at the video and don't make assumptions. :)

    I follow this exactly but whenever I put my save into your editor a pop up comes up xbox content package viewer. Files can only be extracted at the moment etc.... and when you click save it doesn't save and when you click save as it takes my 60kb save file and saves it into a 2kb file and I can't even put it on my usb with Horizon or Modia keeps saying not valid STFS package. So I can't understand what I'm doing wrong?

    Hi bud, firstly awesome editor. I cant seem to get decent attributes to kill zombies. I put in the highest but its still not working. Any ideas ??

      Thank you! :)

      There are a few ways:
      - Use the "Good" preset (a value of 709).
      - Increase your character's level and weapons' required level.
      - Increase the rareness/color.
      - Use skills/skill tweaks to boost overall dealt damage.

      I'm afraid that there are no ways to reliably change the stats without modding the game itself.

      You are probably replacing the CON/STFS package (with the old, not modified one) rather than injecting your actual save (which DISE outputs) into it. Please make sure not to miss any steps. :)

    Can you help? I think im doing it right but it dosent work, it freezes half way into the save i know im doing the other parts right but am i supposed to only be aloud to have some of the weapons? like some work some freeze the game? i tryed to add an desert eagle, sawed off, millitary knife, burst rifel, m1 grand. 5 weapons and it freezes? what is AI out side some is that only ai game people weapons ?

      Certain weapons (e.g. Stationary MG) will freeze the game. Way high values (cash, ammo, skills) can also freeze the game, at least on Xbox.

    I appreciate it but i don't have the machine gun or high ammo and cash but i put max skills like 16 on some and it didn't freeze it then? aren't some weapons quest weapons like chainsaw? couldn't things like that freeze it or.... if i just will.. will the tapes and stuff will that freeze it? and if you change ACT2A To ACT3A can this freeze it? i don't change it but.. is their a way to see the actual weapon names most for me will say zzz_ at it or N and says stuff... is it possible to change the level of your character to higher than 50 without freezing or i am on xbox but can u create and test one for me? if so just add some ammo all the tweeks sept for the one that makes the rage thing longer add one of each type of gun nice ones like sawed off or all the tapes and stuff or just make one with all of the weapons if it dont freeze and whats A.I.

      Should be fine. Most of the skills are find up to 32,767 but it's all about considering the effects as well. Way more than 100% of something may make it glitchy. The Xbox is apparently more sensitive than the PC.

      Not the Chainsaw as far as I know. I think it's more like a reward, but I forgot.

      Probably not, only some weapons that the player was never meant to have, can freeze the game (for example AI weapons, or those with strange names like Melee_Leg).

      Tapes, no. What is "stuff"? If other collectibles, then no.

      It's not as simple as changing one field and not the others. Wrong values has not frozen my game, though.

      Yes, but you are either missing the game text file. It's in the setup, full or typical download. If you have it, go to Tools > Preferences > Naming (inside DISE) and change to "Friendly name".

      AI = Artificial Intelligence, or the NPC (Non-playable character). Those weapons were not made for the player and may not have normal behaviors.

      Hello!

      Sorry, seems like I missed your questions.

      They were not meant for the player, so they don't have normal behavior. While they may work alright, I guess there's no guarantee.

    Oh almost forgot but i had finished the game lat time i modded it and.. i tryed the keep invintory and start from begining thing um it froze during this option? what do you think did it?

      If you had the exact same items in your inventory and didn't mod anything else, I'm not quite sure without having a look.

      Hello!

      Are you using an old version of the Steam client?

      Also, if you play on the Xbox, you don't need to sync.

      Your USB device is your USB pen/flash drive. You need to prepare it first on your Xbox, then move/copy your save to it from the Xbox.

    When I change the Mods/Collectibles then save, inject and play on 360 nothing changes. I load that save everything is the same as it use to be. I extract and view it in DISE again and looks the same as at the start with none of the stuff checked.

      Please make absolutely sure that you move the *modded* file back to your USB device. Also make sure you are on the Contents tab in Modio when you inject/replace.

      I followed the process to a T. I am using Horizon but it's not having a problem injecting or extracting. I can change other things like weapon ammo and it reflects the changes but not with Revealing map or Mods/Collectibles.

      Now when it comes to working with DISE all I need to do is click, "All" in each of the categories (ex. mods, id, news, etc..) then click save right?

      Inject the file back with Horizon/Modio and Bob's your uncle?

      Because at this point it is not working.

      The file size is normal, the ~64 KB file is an STFS package while the ~4 KB one is your actual save.

      I have a video for Modio v3.0 if you wish to try it instead.

      Yes, it should be that simple to give yourself the collectibles. Is your game fully updated? v1.3 is the latest.

    Hi, I attempted to mod my save and it encountered the "cannot save" error. I fixed my way around it and modded again. I saved, resigned, the whole process and loaded it up from my hard drive, but it says something about "Incompatible data".

    Any advice?

    ok, its me again, but i watched this video, did it, saved and rehashed, put the flash drive into my xbox and go to play. there are two options, New Game and "incompatible data". PLEASE HELP!!! if you want to have a look at my save i can send it to you, and anonymous had the same problem.

    Hey Steffen, I tried using this on my level 13 Logan. I know I'm posting this in 2014, which is kind of late and old for Dead Island, but Xbox set it out free, so xD I took advantage of it. But anyway, when I tried modifying my save, here's what I did: I got in my Xbox storage- Hard Drive > Game and Apps > Dead Island > Logan, level: 13, Chapter 3- I transferred in on to my USB, and put it in to Horizon, dragged it on my Desktop, and opened it in to DISE. I modified what I wanted, and clicked: File > Save -Went back to Horizon, deleted my save from my USB, and dragged the modified "save_0" back in to Horizon, then "Rehash and Resigned" then saved to device. Went back to Xbox - System Settings > Memory Stick > Games and Apps > Dead Island - Then transferred back to the Hard Drive. But when I went back on to Dead Island, but my Logan wasn't the level I chose, didn't have the extra items, mods, ect. Nor the money, so I don't know what I did wrong, or if I did do anything wrong, but I'm kind of frustrated, because I tried doing this over and over for about 3 hours. Please help as soon as possible.

    I keep getting "incompatible version" on my 360 saves.. using horizon a million times no problems, but cant seem to get this one.. I'm guessing values are too high.. Do we have any documentation showing safe values for everything ???

      Anyone can use or add melee weapons. Just make sure you're not also trying to add collectible items to your inventory along with melee weapons, and it should be fine.
